Koh Lanta is a beautiful island on the Andaman coast of Thailand. Koh Lanta is known for its long beaches, clear water with great diving spots and a more relaxed vibe compared to other islands. There’s a stunning national park, interesting mangroves and a lovely old town to explore on the island.
It’s definitely worth a visit on your Thailand trip and we highly recommend visiting Lanta Animal Welfare whilst you’re here! It’s even possible to volunteer here and support the rescue animals of Koh Lanta.
As for vegan restaurants in Koh Lanta, there aren’t any fully vegan restaurants due to supply and demand, however, there are many restaurants and cafes with great vegan options! The amazing people on this island are all so friendly and will be sure to try to veganize a dish if you ask, although you really won’t need to ask.
Note: We always try our best to update these blog posts, however, restaurants may close or change their opening times. Some restaurants may temporarily close from June – October for the low season. Please double-check Google Maps or their website before visiting any of these restaurants. Enjoy!

The guy here is super friendly and can customize any pizza you want, just tell him no cheese! There are a few seats in the restaurant or you can take it away. Koh Lanta Vegan Friendly Cooking Class
We can’t end this Koh Lanta vegan guide without mentioning the best cooking class in Koh Lanta and our favourite of all time! Time for Lime is a vegan friendly cooking class located at Lanta Animal Welfare.
Time for Lime has been running for 19 years and has taught many students how to cook amazing Thai food. The first profits were used to build the Lanta Animal Welfare Center back in 2010 and Time for Lime is still the biggest supporter of the welfare centre (all profits go towards helping care and feed for the dogs and cats at the rescue centre). Here’s Time for Lime’s Facebook!
We highly recommend booking a class at Time for Lime and you’ll be treated to chef Noi cracking jokes, and showing you how to cook authentic Thai food such as Khao Soi, pad Thai, and vegetable curries. The list of what you get to cook changes each day to keep it fresh!
Check out our experience Volunteering at Lanta Animal Welfare: Thailand (2025)!

Time for Lime often closes during the low-season but double-check their website for the most up-to-date information! Also, the daily tours at Koh Lanta Animal Welfare are always running. Here’s Time for Lime’s Facebook for more details!

Quick Koh Lanta Vegan Guide Tips
A lot of the places we’ve listed may have a vegetarian menu instead of a vegan menu, it’s always best to double-check that there’s no egg in a dish before ordering. At any new place, we ask for no egg, no dairy/ no cow and no fish sauce. Here are a few of the dishes you can safely order as a Koh Lanta vegetarian:
- Thai Curries (Red, Green, Massaman)
- Pad Thai (order with no egg)
- Fried Rice dishes (order with no egg)
- Mango Sticky Rice (check they use coconut milk – not condensed milk)
- Khao Soi (ask for rice noodles, not egg noodles)
- Spring Rolls (double check there’s no egg)
- Thai Salads (ask for no fish sauce)
- Indian Food (ask for no ghee, butter or dairy/cow)

Where to stay in Koh Lanta
Koh Lanta is a very long island and it can take some time to get around the island. We recommend staying near Klong Khong Beach or Long Beach in Koh Lanta. There are also some great places to stay on the south of the island or in Old Town but we personally prefer staying near some of our favourite restaurants!
Baan Suan Rim Klong $-$$ (Moo 2) – We spent 10 days in these lovely bungalows and enjoyed our days swimming in the pool and relaxing on our mini terrace. Very close to Yawee restaurant (one of our favourites)! Find them on Booking.com – Baan Suan Rim Klong!
Coco Lanta Resort $-$$ – This place has such a great atmosphere to it with a big pool and restaurant and cosy bungalows. We visited here to use the pool and have put it on our list to stay next time we visit Koh Lanta! It’s right next to The Angels! Find them on Booking.com – Coco Lanta Resort!
Ok Chawkoh Bungalow $ – If you’re on a tight budget, these bungalows are perfect for you! It’s in a great area next to many vegan restaurants in Koh Lanta (restaurants with vegan options). We stayed in one of their air-con rooms a few years ago! Find them on Booking.com here – Ok Chawkoh Bungalow!

Finding your own Vegan Snacks in Koh Lanta
As we were in Thailand for three months, we did a lot of grocery store shopping for snacks and some cooking options. We never came across a vegan-friendly bread in 7-Eleven, however, they do exist in other shops in Koh Lanta (the bread is very sweet bread in Thailand).
Our top tip when looking for vegan snacks is to look out for the Thai word เจ – it looks similar to a 17. It’s all over the roasted seaweed snacks and is found on many vegan items in Koh Lanta. Our go-to vegan items on Koh Lanta were fresh coconuts, peanut butter and banana, and many types of fruit and we even picked up some pancake ingredients.
There are many kinds of soy milk in grocery stores including a Vita Milk chocolate soy milkshake (the best snack) and Oreos are always vegan in Koh Lanta!

If you want to find even more vegan friendly restaurants in Koh Lanta – check out Happy Cow and Google Maps for more suggestions. There are quite a few bars or places that may have one or two options. Luckily a lot of places understand vegetarian in Koh Lanta and will happily add options to their menu.
To conclude this post, there are many vegan restaurants in Koh Lanta (restaurants offering vegan options) and it’s a dream to live for a little while. We would love to go back again for the vegan food and to volunteer at Lanta Animal Welfare all over again.

Hi, we contacted the living room cafe for a vegan birthday cake and they told us that they only do dairy free, gluten free, but not egg free. So it sound like they don’t do it anymore.
Hi Kevin, thank you for letting us know. I also just contacted them to find out the same information 🙁 Hopefully, they will find an egg-free recipe again in the future!
