The Best Coron Itinerary – 2 or 3 days in Coron

If you want to know how to get to Coron and other recommendations, read further as we mention this after our itinerary! This guide is perfect for 2 or 3 days in Coron and even longer if you have the time. We’ll mention the best things to do in Coron and a few extra activities for you to plan your Coron trip!

Day 1 – Arriving, Coron Town & Sunset

When you arrive on Busuanga Island head to Coron Town and find your accommodation. The ferry will take you straight to Coron Town but you’ll probably have to get a tricycle from there or a minivan from the airport.

Once you’ve reached your accommodation in Coron town, it’s time to start planning your activities for your 3 days in Coron. After reading this Coron itinerary, it’s completely up to you whether you want to book diving or island hopping in advance or book it on the first day of your trip.

Explore Coron Town

After you’ve dropped off your luggage, it’s time to wander around Coron Town. The town isn’t the reason you want to visit Coron, but there are plenty of markets, shops and restaurants around which is perfect for your evenings.

If you need some food, we recommend visiting Levine’s Eatery or Verde Rekado to indulge in Filipino food! We ate at Levine’s every day of our trip!

Maquinit Hot Springs

If you have some extra time on your 3 day Coron itinerary, head to Maquinit Hot Springs! It’s a natural saltwater hot spring which is only a 30-minute ride away from Coron Town. The best way to get there is either by renting a scooter (350 – 500 pesos) or taking a round-trip tricycle (400 – 600 PHP). Here’s the location!

The price to enter the hot spring is 250 PHP and the last entrance is 7 pm, so it’s possible to experience the sunset from here, however, we have a better place in mind!

Sunset at Mount Tapyas

One of the best things to do in Coron Town is to hike up to Mount Tapyas for sunset. It’s the perfect activity to do on your first day as you won’t be tired from the boat trips! It’s also best to visit in the evening for the lower temperature and the beautiful sunset.

It only takes 30 minutes, but in the heat, it can get pretty sweaty! Here’s the location of the trailhead and make sure you give yourself enough time to arrive before the sun sets.

At the top, there’s a large viewing platform and lots of small trails leading around the hill. If you’re up there around 5 pm, you can watch all the boats finish their day trips and come back to the town.

This means you’ll also see the Hollywood-style Mount Tapyas sign when arriving back in the town after a day on the water.

Day 2 – Go Diving in Shipwrecks

As Coron is one of the best places to go diving in the Philippines and one of the best places in the world, we have to mention diving on this Coron 3 day itinerary. The underwater world is magical around the islands and Coron is famous for its Japanese shipwrecks!

When first visiting the Philippines, we heard of the sunken shipwrecks in the waters, but we didn’t realise how incredible it would be to see them with our own eyes!

Which Dive Company in Coron?

There are many dive shops in Coron but after doing our research, we went with Reggae Divers and highly recommend them! They took us on 3 dives and our dive master showed us the inside of some of the shipwrecks which felt so surreal.

We are aware that not everyone knows how to dive – if this is you, then we recommend picking a snorkel tour that visits these shipwrecks because they cannot be missed!

At Reggae Divers the dive boat on a snorkelling trip for 1500 PHP. Some of the wrecks aren’t very deep and you’ll be able to float above the impressive Japanese shipwrecks. We saw freedivers reaching the wrecks too!

It is currently 4000 PHP for 2 dives or 4500 PHP for 3 dives. Both prices include equipment, entrance fees to the dive sites, a freshly cooked lunch and drinks!

Diving in WWII Shipwrecks

On day 1 of your Coron itinerary, head to their Dive Shop Location to book a dive and get your equipment prepared! You can also message them through their website in advance before visiting Coron – Reggage Diver’s Website.

There are ten Japanese shipwrecks around Coron and each of them is in different locations at different depths. We were lucky enough to visit two on our diving trip – Morazan Maru and East Tangat Wreck.

The ships became shipwrecks during the 1944 WWII during an attack by the US Navy. They have become a great spot for coral and fish, which also makes them perfect diving spots in Coron. A few of them are The Irako, Olympia Maru (a cargo ship) and Okikawa Maru.

Coron is one of the best places to take a Wreck Diving course to add to your open-water or advanced qualifications. We don’t have a wreck-diving qualification but our Dive Master showed us the way through both of the wrecks we visited. It’s so surreal and you have to be super careful not to kick any silt around and create bad visibility.

Diving in Baraccuda Lake

After exploring the impressive shipwrecks during this Coron itinerary it’s time to experience something completely different whilst underwater. Baraccuda Lake feels like a tropical underwater spa!

The dive boat can’t access the lake, so you’ll have to swim and walk over to the lake from the ocean and once you arrive the water at the lake will feel totally normal (28°C freshwater).

Then as you descend with your diving gear, the freshwater becomes salt water and you’ll experience a Thermocline with the water becoming 38°C!

It feels like a hot bath and it’s the most fascinating experience! Our dive master at Reggae Divers recommended that we take off our wetsuits for this dive and we’re glad we did! Diving in Baraccuda Lake makes you realise how incredible this world is.

Tip - Bring your Go Pro to take the best underwater photos! Here's a cheaper alternative we found if you're on a budget!

After an amazing day underwater, it’s time to head back to Coron Town and find some food for the evening. There are many Filipino restaurants around, but we also recommend Trattoria Altrove Coron for Italian!

Day 3 – Explore the islands on an Island Hopping Tour

On day 3 of this Coron itinerary, it’s time to explore the amazing islands and surroundings on a Coron Island Hopping Tour. We absolutely loved this day and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting (we even enjoyed some of the locations more than El Nido)!

Go on a Coron Island Hopping Tour

Island hopping is one of the best things to do on your 3 day Coron itinerary and the town is just the base for you to explore the amazing islands of Coron.

Visit unique lagoons, sunken shipwrecks, swim with tropical fish and see vibrant coral. There are multiple island hopping tours to choose from, so we’ll show you some of your options!

Super Ultimate Island Hopping Tour

This is the most popular tour in Coron and it’s the perfect one day trip from the town as it covers a variety of the best places in Coron. We booked the Super Ultimate Island Hopping Tour with Calamian Islands Travel and Tour for 1,600 PHP (prices can change)! Here’s the places you’ll visit:

Another island hopping boat tour in Coron is to explore shipwrecks and reefs on the west side of Coron island. If you’re not a fan of diving, this tour is a great option. It also takes you to snorkel-safe zones and the boat journey here is also incredible.

  • Lusong Gunboat
  • Lusong coral gardens
  • Pass Island

What food do you get on an Island Hopping Tour? Usually, the crew cook fresh fish, rice and sometimes meat! As we’re vegan, they prepared us a delicious plate of vegetables so we could eat too! There’s also fruit to snack on and a few different types of drinks.

Our time with Calamian Islands Travel and Tours was amazing! Visiting the islands and lagoons was amazing but the crew made our experience unforgettable! Our boat was filled with people from all over the world and we were truly looked after by the crew. Check out their Facebook here, message them online, or you can book with Klook!

Flying to Coron – Coron (Busuanga Island) has an airport connecting to popular destinations such as Manila and Cebu. Flying will usually take around 1-2 hours to get around the Philippines. The best and only way to get to or from Coron airport is to take a minivan which costs around 250 PHP in 2024.

How to get to Coron from Manila The best way to get from Coron to Manila is by flying and it’s best to book your tickets in advance to get the best prices. If you’re on a budget, there’s a 15-hour ferry for around 1,350 PHP but it only leaves on certain days of the week.

How to get from El Nido to Coron

  1. Ferry – Tickets prices are currently 3200 PHP (£46) and it takes around 4-6 hours with Montenegro Shipping Lines. You’ll be given seat numbers and make sure to bring snacks! Here’s the Coron Ferry Port Location!

Tricycles (Tuk-Tuks) – Tricycles are one of the best ways to get around Coron and you’ll find lots of them around tourist destinations. A common route is from Coron Town to Maquinit Hot Springs! Prices can range from 400 – 600 PHP for round-trip tricycle rides and 150 PHP for short rides.

Tours – If you book an Island Hopping Tour, it’s likely the company you booked with will pick you up from your hotel or hostel.

Best Time to Visit Coron

The best time to visit Coron is between January and March with the great shoulder seasons starting from November until May. December is the busiest month to visit and booking accommodation in advance may be recommended if you want good prices!

We visited in May and experienced a lot of unexpected rain, however, it didn’t ruin our trip and the Philippines looks beautiful in the rain. It’s also hot all year round with amazing sea temperatures.

During the rainy season from July to September, the weather can be pretty unpredictable and typhoons are a problem in this area of the world. Check the weather here and be prepared for stormy weather or ferry delays in these months.

How many days in Coron?

We recommend spending at least 3 days in Coron to explore the highlights of the island. It can take a while to get to Coron whether you’re flying or getting the ferry so it’s definitely worth spending a few days to make your journey worth it. If you can only do a 2 day Coron itinerary, then focus on your favourite activities so you can create the best trip.

Are you a diver? if you love diving, honestly, add on a few more days. There’s so much to see in the underwater world that one or two days of diving only just scratches the surface. Coron is one of the best diving locations in the world, so definitely think about it!

What to pack for 3 days in Coron?

As Coron has a tropical climate, it’s best to pack for hot weather with the chance of rain and don’t forget a swimming costume! A hat, sunglasses and reef-friendly sunscreen are also recommended to keep you extra safe! Here are a few other travel essentials:

Usually, on island hopping tours, you can rent a snorkel and aqua shoes, but it’s also great to have your own snorkel throughout the Philippines so you can swim whenever! Find them here – Aqua shoes and snorkel gear.

What to do after Coron

Is Coron worth visiting?

Yes! Even if you’re planning on going to El Nido, we still think Coron is worth a visit. The scenery is different and the island hopping tours have different stops. It’s an incredible destination if you’re a diver and love the underwater world. The coral is much more vibrant in the waters around Coron compared to El Nido.
