~ Also check out our 3 Month Southeast Asia Itinerary travel guide ~
Day 1 – 4 | Siem Reap
Siem Reap is the best place to start this 2 week Cambodia itinerary and the perfect base to explore the famous Angkor Complex. Spend the first few days visiting archaeological sites, and markets whilst trying out Cambodian cuisine.
Want a sim card for your 2 weeks in Cambodia? You can pick up a sim card from most shops in Siem Reap for around USD$3. Metfone or Smart are the best companies to go with and will give you data around the country.
What to do in Siem Reap
On your first day in Siem Reap, ask the accommodation you’re staying at – how to get around the Angkor Complex. You’ll need to find transport to get to the temples and a mode of transport to get around. In the evening check out the night markets before an early night ready for a beautiful sunrise wake up.
It’s also a great idea to book your Siem Reap: Angkor Wat: Small-Group Sunrise Tour in advance!
Sunrise the famous Angkor Wat
A visit to the largest temple in the world is the highlight of any 2 week Cambodia itinerary and it’s the reason why Siem Reap is a must-visit on your trip.
Angkor Wat was built by the Khmer King and lies in the Angkor Archaeological Park which is home to many other temples. The entire area can take up to 1 week to explore although it’s possible to see the highlights in 1 day. Here are a few places you should see in 1 day:
- Sunrise at Angkor Wat – the largest and most impressive temple!
- Angkor Thom – a city of temples and ruins, it’s the second most popular after Angkor Wat.
- Terrace of the Elephants – an ancient royal viewing platform where the King used to watch his army.
- Bayon Temple – another beautiful temple with faces in the structures.
- Ta Prohm – this is the famous tomb raider temple with nature wrapped around the buildings.
- Phnom Bakheng – beautiful views for sunset overlooking the complex.
The best way to get around Angkor Wat and the other temples is by getting a tuk-tuk for the day or by bicycle. It is possible to walk, but it’s pretty difficult in the Cambodian heat and it can take 4.5 hours to get around. Book your sunrise tour here!
The price to enter Angkor Wat is USD$37 for 1 day and you can pick up your tickets the night before. ($62 for 3 days & $72 for 7 days) It can also cost around $15-$25 to hire a tuk-tuk driver to take you around the temples, depending on how many stops you do.
Did you know? Angkor Wat has been on the Khmer national flag since the 1800s- and it’s still on the Cambodian flag today. Angkor Wat is also the symbol of Cambodia.
Visit the Angkor National Museum
A great way to escape the heat in Siem Reap is to visit the Angkor National Museum. Thankfully the building is air-conditioned and it can take around 1-2 hours to browse around the museum. There’s a large collection of Khmer artefacts and some info to start understanding the culture of the Khmer civilization. If you’re interested in history or archaeology, this museum is perfect!
The price of entry is US$12 and it reopened in November 2024! Here’s the location!
Walk down Pub Street
After a long day of temple-hopping, spend your evening at Pub Street in the heart of the city. Pub Street is the hub of nightlife in Siem Reap and is like a mini version of Khao San Road (but not as crazy!) This is where you’ll find a lot of restaurants, bars and markets. Here’s the location!
Shop the markets & eat street food
Around the area of Pub Street, there are so many markets and you’ll find most of the street food down the main tourist strip. However, here are a few more markets to check out on your 2 week Cambodia itinerary:
- Siem Reap Night Market (Art Center)
- Old Market
- Made in Cambodia Market
Where to stay in Siem Reap

Day 4 – 6 | Phnom Penh
The next destination on this 2 week Cambodia itinerary is the busy capital – Phnom Penh (pronounced puh-nom pen). This city is full of history and it’s not as developed as cities such as Bangkok or Singapore with missing sidewalks and crazy traffic.
But, you can’t spend 2 weeks in Cambodia without passing through Phnom Penh as most of the roads travel to the city. We’re going to show you why Phnom Penh is worth a visit and how to spend a few days exploring the city. Plus in this Cambodia itinerary, we visit again at the end of the trip.
How to get to Phnom Penh from Siem Reap
The best way to get to Phnom Penh from Siem Reap is by bus! It’s a 7-hour journey and it’s best to leave in the morning to make the most of your time in the capital city. Once you’re there – the best way to get around Phnom Penh is by tuk-tuk, taxi or Grab.
What to do in Phnom Penh
In this Cambodia 2 week itinerary, we’ve included the main highlights to do in Phnom Penh but there are many other markets or temples to visit if you’re stuck for things to do. The city is filled with bakeries and restaurants and it’s also super lovely to walk along Riverside Park.
Visit the Killing Fields (Choeung Ek Genocidal Center)
Prepare yourself, this is the dark history of Cambodia. Choeung Ek Genocidal Center is one of many Killing fields that have been discovered across the country and it’s sadly where 1 million people were killed between 1975-1979. When visiting you walk around the grounds with an audio guide.
Choeung Ek Genocidal Center is a quite out of the centre of Phnom Penh and it may be best to join a tour instead of catching a tuk-tuk. Here’s one we recommend on GetYourGuide with hotel pick-up! The price is $6 to enter.
Learn history in the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21 Prison)
On the same day, it’s worth visiting the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum as there are tours to visit both of these places. It’s a pretty eye-opening experience listening to the history of Cambodia with the Khmer Rouge while walking through the halls and rooms. There are a lot of images showing what it was like to be here in this brutal time.
It’s worth a visit on your 2 week Cambodia itinerary to understand more about the country’s history. The price is $5 and $3 extra for an audio guide.
Visit the Royal Palace of Cambodia
One of the most popular things to do in Phnom Penh is to visit the Royal Palace of Cambodia – where the king still lives today! Location here! The palace has a beautiful mix of Khmer & French architecture and it’s lovely to visit late afternoon before closing and enjoy the riverside views!
Browse around the Central Market & Russian Market
The Russian Market has almost everything here and it gets pretty busy with locals and tourists! It’s the perfect time to find any gifts, souvenirs or clothes on your 2 week Cambodia itinerary. Here’s the location of the Russian Market.
A visit to the Central Market is also worth it for its incredible building! The stalls are almost identical to the Russian Market and you can find pretty good food at both. Location to Central Market here!
If you’re not done with markets at this point, you can check out Phnom Penh Night Market in the evening for a chill walk and some local food. We tried sugarcane juice and coconut ice cream (yum!)
More things to do in Phnom Penh
- Visit the National Museum of Cambodia – location here! (around $10)
- See Wat Phnom – This Buddhist temple is the tallest religious structure in the city!
- Find the Independence Monument
- Walk along the riverside and watch the locals

Best Restaurants in Phnom Penh
Evergreen Vegetarian $-$$ – We highly recommend checking out Evergreen whilst in Phnom Penh. Serving up delicious mock meats and noodle dishes. We ate here twice and were not disappointed. Here’s the location for Evergreen Vegetarian.
Cambodian Street Food – You’ll find it all around the markets! Try noodles, dumplings, fresh juices and coconut ice cream!
Day 6 – 8 | Kampot
Kampot is one of our favourite places on this 2 week Cambodia itinerary. After your visit to Phnom Penh, Kampot will feel laidback, chilled and a breath of fresh air. It’s great to spend at least 2 days here to soak up the charm of this riverside town.
How to get to Kampot from Phnom Penh
The best way to get to Kampot from Phnom Penh is by bus! It takes around 3 hours and the best way to get around the town is by scooter, tuk-tuk or walking.
What to do in Kampot
There are so many lovely things to do in Kampot, from adventuring up to a mountain viewpoint or chilling on the beach. So here’s a few more places to visit in Cambodia whilst you’re in the town of Kampot.
Adventure to the top of Bokor National Park
Rent a scooter and drive up Bokor Mountain. Honestly, it’s one of the best things to do in Kampot! You can rent scooters from many guesthouses for around $5 and the roads are pretty smooth. The views are truly incredible, there are monkeys on the side of the road and a Buddha halfway up the mountain.
If you’re not comfortable renting a scooter, there are tours you can book in Kampot town or at your accommodation but we highly recommend driving yourself up to the top. Find Bokor Hill Station and just admire the views.
Visit a Pepper Farm
Did you know? Kampot is home to salt and pepper! You’ll find pepper farms and salt fields all around Kampot and a visit to Sothy’s Pepper Farm will teach you about the production of Cambodian black pepper (location here)!
During your 2 week Cambodia itinerary, you can also visit The Kampot Pepper Shop in Kampot town if you want to buy a gift!
Kayak through the mangroves in Kampot River
A peaceful activity to do in Kampot is to grab a kayak and paddle along the Kampot River – and yes you can also swim in the river too (in safe areas!)
Head to Champa Lodge as they offer kayak and paddleboard rentals for around $3-5 an hour (location here). Try to get there around 3pm as they won’t rent them if it’s close to sunset.
Watch the sunset from the riverside beaches
The riverside is the perfect spot to watch the sunset, chill and visit the nearby markets. There are many spots along the river with small beaches and plenty of dogs! We found a noodle dish for $1.50 at Bokor Night Market and it was the perfect way to finish a day in Kampot on our 2 week Cambodia itinerary.
Take a trip to Kep
On one of your days in Kampot, take a trip to Kep in the morning before exploring Bokor National Park in the late afternoon. Then you’ll only have to rent the scooter for one day! A visit to Kep will take around 40 minutes from Kampot Town and here are some of the main reasons to visit:
Visit the Kep National Park for walks and viewpoints, find the Krung Kep Blue Swimmer Crab Statue out in the water near Kep Beach and have lunch in or near Kep Market! Chill on the beach before heading back to Kampot.
More things to do in Kampot
- Go on a Sunset and Firefly tour down River Kampot – a beautiful way to end an evening!
- Find the Durian roundabout – in the heart of Kampot town, there’s literally a Durian in the middle of a roundabout!
- Bokor Night Market or Kampot Night Market- to find some tasty food by the river!
- Take in the lovely architecture – a mix of French colonial and Chinese buildings in Cambodia.
Where to stay in Kampot
Bohemiaz Resort and Spa Kampot $ – A relaxing budget-friendly resort outside of Kampot town may be the place for you! If you’re happy renting a scooter, it’ll be easy to get around and you can enjoy the pool any time. – Find the link on Booking.com here!
Samnop Samnang Guesthouse $ – Located in the town centre, this spot is great for all the activities around Kampot – Find them on Booking.com here!
Arcadia Backpackers & Water Park – If you have extra time on your Cambodia itinerary, spend the night here! It’s quite far outside of Kampot but it’s a waterpark hostel!! – Find the link here!
Day 8 – 11 | Koh Rong
On this Cambodia 2 week itinerary, it’s finally time to visit one of Cambodia’s beautiful tropical islands! Koh Rong is the perfect island to snorkel, chill on white sand beaches and socialize at themed parties. Koh Rong is less developed than popular Thai Islands – there are no actual roads or ATMs in Koh Rong or Koh Rong Sanloem and limited electricity and Wifi.
The main area in Koh Rong is near the Koh Rong Community Pier and it’s where you’ll find a few shops and many restaurants!
How to get to Koh Rong from Kampot
The best way to get to Koh Rong from Kampot is by bus/ minivan and ferry. It will take around 4 hours depending on the time of the ferries. There’s also different areas of the island, so double check with your accommodation which is the closest ferry port. The best way to get around Koh Rong is by walking tours, and boat taxis.
What to do in Koh Rong
As you may have guessed, the main thing to do in Koh Rong is to relax and explore the many beaches on the island. Take the opportunity to just chill and take in the other locations on your Cambodia 2 week itinerary.
Koh Touch Beach
Koh Touch Beach is the main area in Koh Rong and can’t be missed if you’re staying in the area. You’ll find many restaurants and bars here including shops for rentals!
Coconut Beach or Lonely Beach
There’s beaches all over the island such as Coconut Beach in the east and Lonely Beach in the north. Lonely Beach is pretty tricky to get to and you’ll have to rent a scooter and navigate yourself to the north of the island. There’s a few guesthouses here but they’re still recovering from the lack of toursim.
If you visit Coconut Beach at night when it’s completely dark – there’s a chance you can see Bioluminescent Plankton! We actually saw some on the next island (Koh Rong Sanloem) but there’s tours all over Koh Rong to see them here too.
Enjoy scuba diving, snorkelling or kayaking
On your 2 week Cambodia itinerary, Koh Rong is the best place to explore the underwater world. You can rent snorkels from shops, guesthouses or bars. If you’re up for an adventure, you can kayak to Koh Touch Island (location here) and it will cost around $8 for half a day!
Visit Koh Rong Dive Centre (here’s their website) to find out more about scuba diving in Koh Rong. You’ll have an amazing time whether you’re going for a fun dive or if you want to join their snorkel trip or PADI training course – there’s many options!
Walk through the jungle to Long Beach
Following the coast from Koh Touch Beach, there’s a path through the jungle leading to another beautiful beach – Long Set Beach! The crystal-clear water on these beaches is stunning! We spent all afternoon here in the shade of the palm trees and it’s magical!
Also, visit White Beach in between both of the beaches! Grab your beach towel or find a lounger to relax next to the ocean.
Where to stay in Koh Rong
If you want to stay in the main area of Koh Rong where most things happen, find Koh Rong Community Pier on GoogleMaps and choose an accommodation around the area!
Psk Vimean Koh Rong Guesthouse $ – Right next to Koh Toch Beach in the main area of Koh Rong! – Find the Booking.com link here!
Coconutbeach Bungalows $ – In a quiet part of the island, you can enjoy the ultimate relaxing experience from a tent or room. – Find the Booking.com link here!
Palm Beach Bungalow Resort $$ – Another ultimate relaxing experience, in the north of Koh Rong. Find the Booking.com like here!
Day 11 – 13 | Koh Rong Sanloem
The final destination on this 2 week Cambodia itinerary is Koh Rong Sanloem, another tropical island in Cambodia. It’s only a short ferry ride from Koh Rong and it’s a little less developed in comparison.
If you want to spend longer and relax more, just pick one of these islands and stay there for 3 or 4 nights. We’ll show you what to do on both islands during this Cambodia itinerary!
How to get to Koh Rong Sanloem from Koh Rong
The best way to get to Koh Rong Sanloem from Koh Rong is by ferry/speedboat which takes around 40 minutes. The best way to get around Koh Rong Sanloem is by walking, tour, or boat taxi.
What to do in Koh Rong Sanloem
Similar to Koh Rong, the main activities revolve around beaches. There’s a few different areas you can stay in around the island and as there’s no roads, it does require extra boats to reach other destinations. We stayed in M’pai Bay and loved it for 2 nights! Here’s what to do in Koh Rong Sanloem:
Chill at M’Pai Bay & swim with Bioluminescent Plankton
The beaches in Koh Rong Sanloem come alive at night! Quite literally – if you wait until it’s completely dark and swish your foot in the ocean, you can see tiny glowing lights! This is Bioluminescent Plankton and it’s beautiful!
If you have a snorkel and are not scared of the ocean or the dark, go for a swim to be amazed by these glowing creatures.
Visit Saracen Bay & Lazy Beach
If you’re staying on Saracen Bay during your 2 weeks in Cambodia, a hike to Lazy Beach will make you feel not so lazy whilst chilling on the beach. You can also hike to the Old Lighthouse, but it’s pretty long!
Watch the sunset at Sunset Beach
Another great spot to visit if you’re staying near Saracen Bay is Sunset Beach. Exactly how it sounds, this is one of the best spots on the island to watch the sun go down after a beautiful day. Just make sure you’re okay walking back to Saracen Bay afterwards! Find the location here!
If you’re staying at M’Pai Bay – the best spot for sunset is at The Cliff Hostel! We highly recommend it!
Other things to do in Koh Rong Sanloem
- Snorkelling or Scuba Diving – discover the underwater world in Koh Rong Sanloem.
- Kayaking or SUP – similar to Kong Rong, you can rent kayaks in Saracen Bay!
- Parties – there’s parties most nights on these islands, just ask around!
Where to stay in Koh Rong Sanloem
There are two main areas to stay in Koh Rong Sanloem – M’Pai Bay and Saracen Bay.
The Cliff Hostel $ – Our favourite accommodation during our 2 weeks in Cambodia, has to be The Cliff Hostel near M’Pay Bay. You can snorkel in the water nearby by walking down the rocks and the area feels secluded even though it’s a 5-minute walk to the main strip. Find the link on Booking.com here!
Robinson Bungalows $-$$ – Beautiful bungalows in a private area (Sunset Beach) of Koh Rong Sanloem! Find them on Booking.com here!
Day 13 – 14 | Phnom Penh
On your last day of this 2 week Cambodia itinerary, head to Phnom Penh to get your transportation to your next destination.
As the journey is pretty long from Koh Rong Sanloem to Phnom Penh, we recommend spending one night back in the capital before catching a bus or flight out of the country!
How to get to Phnom Penh from Koh Rong
If you enjoyed your accommodation before, it’s a good idea to book the same one! Here’s what we recommend earlier in this itinerary.
Hotel Zing $ – Find the Booking.com link here!
Mad Monkey Phnom Penh $-$$ – Find the Hostelworld link here!

The killing fields around the country have more than 20,000 grave sites with over 1 million bodies. The Khmer Rouge
